U.S. GIRLS BAG ALL 3 MEDALS IN 100 METERS HURDLES
Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin created history when they bagged the gold, silver and bronze medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics last night. Despite registering six of the top ten fastest times in the world last year, USA were not able to bag a medal in the 2015 Beijing World Championships of Athletics. Girls from Jamaica, Germany and Belarus took the medals then. So, it was a strong comeback for the girls at Rio 2016. Rollins crossed the line in 12.48 secs while Nia Ali did it in 12.59. Castlin finished third with a timing of 12.63 secs, but it was a photo-finish with Britain's Cindy Ofili. It was a tense minute or two for Castlin as she had to wait for a confirmation on the giant screen and when it came it show her ahead of the Ofili by a wafer-thin 0.02 secs. That's how close it was!
The American trio shrieked in delight after the announcement."Oh my God, it's a relief. There has been such a lot of anticipation.’’Rollins said. No country had bagged all three medals in the 100-meter hurdles since the time it was introduced in the 1972 Munich Olympics.
It was heartbreak for Britain's Ofili sisters. Rarely have an Olympic final event of athletics witnessed two sisters competing together. Twenty-two year old Cindy Ofili's fourth place photo-finish behind Kristi Castlin bettered the performance of her elder sister, Tiffany (Ofili) Porter, 28, who finished seventh.Interestingly, Tiffany's husband Jeff Porter was there at the games too taking part in the men's 110-men's hurdles, but having finished tenth in the semi-finals could not progress further.
